Controls
Summary
You play as Karanissa the Witch, from the Legends of Ethshar book series, who is trapped in the pocket dimension. The way we will represent this is through the art and color scheme of the levels. We are also representing this through the limited amount of spells that Karanissa can cast each level as witches are held back by their life-force.
Witch Way Out is a casual puzzle platformer where you use your magical powers to traverse the level and clear obstacles to reach the finish. These powers could involve various things such as freezing spells, speed manipulation, time dilation, air jumps, and more. You will have a limited amount of uses of these abilities to complete the levels.
Mechanics
Movement: The player will move with WASD, space can also be used for jumping. The player may be able to double-jump due to spells, launch themselves up into the air using wind, and move faster on ice. Additional platformer mechanics such as wall climbing, grabbing, and sliding will not be included.
Limited number of spells: To keep the levels interesting and connect our game back to Legends of Ethshar, the player will only have a limited amount of spells to cast as they are held back by their life-force. This also forces the player to think about exactly what spells they will cast and where.
Restart: The player will be allowed to restart the level at any point in time, as this creates a more casual feel where the player is not forced to die to restart.
Death: If the player lands on spikes or any death obstacles, the player will die and the level will restart. The player will be able to see the entire map so there will not be any blind falls.
